KPC Open Day

Kaitoke Pistol Club in Upper Hutt again ran its annual open day, and had even bigger results this year. the committee is fully behind this, not only as an opportunity to possibly get new members, but more importantly its an opportunity to expose many who would never otherwise handle a pistol (or a firearm of any type) to shooting, and show that its fun, and safe.

We've run this event for the past 3 years but this year upped the advertising. We put a half page ad in the local paper, and widely used social media. Some small changes to how we ran the event meant that with nearly twice as many visitors as last year it went even more smoothly.

Visitors purchased cards that entitle 4 opportunities to shoot a combination of 10x22 or 5 x 9mm rounds. They also got a chance to shoot a muzzle loading BP pistol, and it was amazing how many smiles we get from shooting one of these "pirates of the caribbean" handguns.

We had a number of return visitors from previous events, showing how popular it is. The youngest shooter was 4 and handled the 22 well (with assistance from his father who is an experienced shooter). There were whole family groups including grandparents.

A great day was had by all - we'd encourage all clubs to do this in their area, it helps combat the negative publicity that the media constantly gives shooting.

if any club wants more info about how we run the day feel free to drop the secretary an email
